HoM is too impersonal. Display your ACTUAL character.
HoM is so impersonal. It's just a broom cupboard full of generic "stuff", that could belong to "anybody". Your character's descendants see only a few of their items (probably not the ones they actually USED for 2 years), some of their achievements, and (unless they change it) generic versions of their armour that may not even match their profession or gender.
Proposal: Add something personal. Allow your character's descendants in GW2 really SEE their ancestor. Make it so you can take a snapshot of your actual character and show it as a statue in HoM. Or even as a movie in the Scrying Pool.
It should show their face, their hair, their armour (include dyes) whether it's "prestige" or not, whether it's mixed or not... their favourite weapon etc. (Ideally show whatever titles they have, at any rank - but that's another thread).
Ideally, you should be able to change the snapshot at will. It would confer NO benefits to descendants - it's simply a "family portrait" visible when you play GW2.
I don't care what else goes in HoM, or what benefits you get... as a player in GW2, all I want is to see my old GW1 character there - for the sake of nostalgia.

I hope to god its only for the preview.
I was shocked just then when i put my Necros FOW in and see a ritualist's and assassin's FOW. Then i put up my 15k Necrotic and i see ghey ele and mes armor.
Not to mention you cant display a mixed set. Personally my favourite Warrior set is a custom mix of FOW/ 15k Glads and a 15K Platemail Helm. I CANT DISPLAY THAT!!!
Anet you fix this for full version or you'll lose a 4500 hour player with all 10 professions PVE in FOW or 15k armor.

I've not seen the present version, but from your comments I feel the following things should be there that may not be now:
1) A big statue of your character with smooth groups and shaders to make it more statue like than the character model
2) A statue of any entity that you've spent a chunk of time developing with your character (beast for ranger, could be others for other proffessions)
3) Properly flexible and accurate preserved armor
4) Stone relief portrait of all of your heroes on a wall
5) Anything else anyone? Add to this list, if you like.

I agree... it's kind of lame that Koss gets to be up there with his big manly upgraded armors of manlitude, but I can't see my pretty Dervish.
Hopefully this is just a taste of things to come and not the full hall.

Any change (to better) of that almost useless hall would be good.
The only good thing I've seen is the cinematic replay.

Yea pretty weak a white, off-blue haired female ele in 15k Elite Sunspear Armor dyed blue gets turned into a black male and female Paragon in Elite Sunspear Armor dyed in default color (off yellow? goldish?).
That would be pretty cool with the statue idea, but maybe a bit much (depending on size)
Maybe some sort of painting?
Some sort of paint-by-quest idea lol
You have to go do quests and you'll be able to choose to dye a certain part of the painting depending on what quest was done.

Has anyone tried the pet display and got "surprised"
I displayed my blue crab, the thing that appeared was a huge statue w/ 3 animals. bear, wolf, and stalker...and it only said "animal companion"
??? I was expecting more (accuracy) that's all...

Yeah, the hall was over hyped. I'm hoping there's a bit more to it with the actual game, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
And what's up with only being able to display your heroes if you upgraded their armor? Talk about lame. I don't do those silly challenge missions for a reason, now I'm being forced to if I want to put my heroes in my hall.
A statue of your character in your hall would be way awesome. Maybe not right off the bat, but once you beat the game. It would make sense for your hall to have a statue of you to be honored if you saved the world (four times for those with all campaigns!).

Agreed.
At the very least, you should get your actual animal companion rather than a generic statue (what's the point of acquiring and levelling a 'prestige' pet if all it's going to track is the existence of a pet? Might as well have all your characters charm Black Moas to get that particular box ticked...), and have the armour sets display the actual armour your character has rather than the generic sets we're getting now. You could even get the personalisation by having the armour sets (the one(s) in the foreground, anyway) stored on statues of the wearer rather than store dummies .
I'd be happy for the particular sets to be 'generic' for translation to GW2 (not every character is going to want to follow in the direct footsteps of their predecessor from 200 years ago, after all), but to extend the metaphor, at the moment the Hall seems more to be a form for boxes to be ticked rather than any actual celebration of the character.

All this might be different when the game goes live. I'm going to wait until the day GWEN actually comes up tom make my final judgements of the HOM
Edit: Ok, that is what I said before I'd actually unlocked my HoM, but when I went to put in my 15k Luxon Armour on my femal monk, some ugly statue of a GUY come up wearing my armour. Not even the right gender? And he's standing next to some warrior chick in ugly spiky armour, and I've NEVER played a warrior in my life, nor do I plan to... I mean WTF? That just goes BEYOND impersonal, which in my opinion completely negates the purpose of having an HoM.

Hopefully. I can certainly understand how it might be a low priority, and since the companion and armour statues are basically reuses of already existing art, one would expect that their art people should be able to implement them within a week or so.

I can understand the time constraints of making a completely personal hall of monuments.
But, I do think that a statue of your character would be pretty neat. Its been done in Oblivion and other such games. Just make it so that when you "activate" a statue (maybe behind the scrying pool?) it reads your armor, face, hair and weapon and turns it into a statue, which can be repeated until GW2 comes out. Then maybe have a similar statue in GW2, to compare characters. I wont think as far ahead as GW3, though.

It surely isn't much to ask, and I can't believe it would be difficult... I'm not talking about anything huge... just regular character size would do for me.
A painting would be a bit lame I think, but I suppose it'd be better than nothing.

I'd imagine a painting would actually be more complicated to implement than a statue. A statue just needs to take a snapshot of your character and put a marbled texture over it, while a painting would require some kind of code to produce a two-dimensional representation.

It was a WTF moment for me. I have a Black Widow Spider so i saw the option to display it and got a statue of it. I then saw the Animal Companion option listed so i clicked that aswell. Suprise.......
It would be cool to get a statue put up after beating the Destroyer so...
